I was invited by the duo DETACH to participate as a movement director on Invisible Futures. The performative aspect of this work was based on Louis Chude Sokei’s written contribution and was activated by the use of thermal cameras.
Fragment of the Athens Biennale curational text: “For Athens Biennale 9, DETACH has been commissioned to present Invisible Futures, an audiovisual installation in collaboration with writer and scholar Louis Chude Sokei and sound artist KMRU, a.k.a Joseph Kamaru. Invisible Futures encompasses an original text by Sokei, a music composition by KMRU, and a new video piece created by DETACH. The multimodal components that comprise Invisible Futures will yield a multisensory experience that will invite the viewer to question, contemplate, and ruminate on the discriminatory systems shaping our society. By bringing these concerns to the fore, DETACH seeks to expand the discourse in the public sphere around issues of class, race, and gender.”
